Apple Picking at Baugher’s Orchards and Farms
Looking for something fun to do this fall in Maryland? How about going apple picking at Baugher’s Orchards and Farms in Westminster! Baugher’s is right off of MD-140 headed towards Taneytown. Baugher’s is an iconic spot for family fun all year round. My personal favorite time to go is in the early fall months when apple picking begins.

When you arrive, you are met with so much to see and do. There are play areas for children including a school bus full of corn, a bubble station, occasional face painting and a nostalgic play set that has been there since before I was a little girl!

In order to get to the apple orchard, you take a quick tractor ride and see the beautiful scenery of the farm! Depending on when you go, there will be certain sections of apples to pick. When I went, we were allowed to pick CrimsonCrisp as well as Fuji apples. CrimsonCrisp’s are a firm, crisp apple with a tart and sweet flavor. These type of apples are wonderful for baking, which is what I used them for! Fuji apples are sweeter than CrimsonCrisps and have that iconic bright red flesh. They are so delicious and firm, perfect for eating fresh off the tree! I purchased the smallest bag available, a 1/2 peck bag which came to $14, but still was able to fit close to ten medium-sized apples into it! The 1 peck bag is $20 and the biggest bag which fits 1/2 bushel of apples is $38. These prices are in addition to the $3 admission fee for ages three and up. When you are at the orchard picking, you are also able to taste test the apples to see which ones you like the most!

After picking, make sure to check out the Baugher’s market where you can get farm fresh fruits and vegetables, tasty baked goods, seasoning packets, fresh squeezed juices, candy and more! They also have a small dessert stand where you can get seasonal goodies including apple cider donuts, pumpkin spice coffee drinks, and ice cream. Everything looks and smells delicious!

Don’t leave after that though! Be sure to walk down the hill and check out Baugher’s petting zoo! This is such a great experience for kids and adults. They have free roaming donkeys, goats, geese, and other caged animals to see like peacocks, emus, fluffy bunnies, pigs and lamas. You can purchase animal feed from the market to feed the animals. There is also a newer playground in the petting zoo area that is so much fun for the children.

Fall time is not the only chance for you to pick fresh fruits and veggies though! Depending on the seasons, you can pick sweet peaches and blackberries, strawberries, sunflowers and more!
