In the Streets Festival

September 13th, 2025,

What a day to be in Frederick Maryland! Picture walking along Market Street, the main strip of downtown, and being surrounded by close to 75,000 people, delicious food, vendors, entertainment and so much more! The annual In the Streets Festival took place over the weekend, and it was incredible to experience! The whole day was filled with activities and fun for the whole family. Although this event has already passed for the year, do not worry about missing out. I will share all of the information and recommendations needed to attend the next In the Streets Festival like a pro!

What is the In the Streets Festival?

In the Streets is a huge event sponsored by Pella Mid Atlantic Windows and Doors. This event has been held for over forty years, and gains more attention every year (Celebrate Frederick)! The event is held along Market Street and extends to Carroll Creek Urban Park which equals out to around two to three miles. The views of downtown and Carroll Creek are immaculate, and it is very easily walkable. The festival gives attendees exploration of beautiful and historic downtown, while also offering the chance to try diverse food, check out a variety of vendor/business setups, listen to awesome performances, and get to know people in the community (Celebrate Frederick)!

The morning started at 9 a.m. with the Market Street Mile; if running is your thing, be sure to check this out! The In the Streets Festival was held from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. From noon to 5 p.m. there was a Craft Beverage Experience for adults, and then finally from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. there was an Up the Creek Party!

When I attended the In the Streets festival around 1 p.m., it was already super crowded, and the weather was pretty warm. If you want to try to beat the crowds, and the heat, I would suggest going earlier in the morning. Do not leave early though, there are events planned all throughout the day, mentioned above, that you do not want to miss!

Entertainment & Attractions

When my boyfriend and I attended the festival, we were absolutely amazed at just how much there was to see and do. Personally, my favorite part of the entertainment were the various bands that were preforming all along Market Street. I enjoyed listening to country music from Melissa Quinn Fox and pop/ indie covers from Nan-Ana. My boyfriend really enjoyed the variety of food offered at the fair. One stand in particular being Ekiban, a restaurant coming to Frederick that serves up Asian and Ethiopian cuisine!

History of the Festival

In the Streets began first in 1983 after renovations had closed down Market Street for many months prior to the festival. The mayor at the time, Ron Young, decided to hold the festival for the community to get a chance to see the renovations that were done and appreciate the hard-working crew members that made them happen! The first festival had an attendance of around 10,000 locals. The festival now has seen a major increase in attendance, reaching over 75,000 (Celebrate Frederick)!

When is the next Festival?!

The date of the next In the Streets Festival is currently unknown, however, there are always fun things happening in and around Frederick! There are exciting events occurring this week including Demolition Derby: Cars, The Great Frederick Fair, Gaver Farms Fall Fun Festival and lots more! Check out the Visit Frederick website to see what events are coming up and stay up to date.
