Community Flea Market in Westminster, Maryland

One of my favorite things about living in a small town is that there are usually always community events going on every weekend. On Saturday, November 8th, I attended a community flea market at the Carroll County Agricultural Center. The Ag Center is a large arena that holds trade shows and entertainment in Carroll County all throughout the year!

The indoor flea market took place from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. and showcased over 100 tables of antiques, books, collectibles, baked goods, crafts and much more! Admission and parking were completely free, and if you rented a 10 x 10 space, there was a fee of $40 with a $5 fee for each table used.

My grandma and great grandma used to have a table every year at this annual flea market, and others throughout the year, so going back really filled me with a lot of emotions. Seeing the areas where they used to set up their table was extremely nostalgic for me. My sisters and I used to help out at the market, checking people out and exploring other tables. My great grandmother passed away in 2020, so being there this year made me feel close to her.

My beautiful grandma and great-grandma in their element!

The flea market at the Ag Center not only has tables of goodies, but they also serve up delicious breakfast made by the Roaring Run Lions Club and all proceeds go back to the community. Prices for breakfast are extremely cheap, but the food is delicious! They serve classic breakfast sandwiches, and fresh pastries like donuts and other sweet deserts. For lunchtime, you can order hot dogs or hamburgers. I believe you can also order pizza slices and walking tacos!

My boyfriend's mom and grandma had a table at the market where they were selling unopened children’s toys. There were not too many children’s toy tables, so their area was definitely a success with the children that attended!

Some tables at the market included handmade wreaths, unique bird houses, and hand-crafted jewelry. Other tables included cds, dvs and tapes, as well as endless clothing, glassware and delicious baked goods.

The great thing about going to a community flea market is that there is always going to be new things to see, and prices are usually reasonable given that the items are second hand. If you are a thrift lover, this is definitely the event for you!

If you missed this event, do not worry! There is another flea market coming up on December 13th at the Carroll County Agricultural Center. If you have too many things and are looking to sell some of it, look into renting a space! If you just like to walk around and look at all the items, pop by from the hours of 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. like I did: you might see me there! ;)
