Randyland- The Most Unique Museum You Will Find!

If you’re in the Pittsburg, PA area and want to check out a super unique museum, you need to visit Randyland on Jacksonia Street! Randyland was engineered by creator Randy Gilson. At the time of Randyland’s birth, Randy was a homeless activist who wanted to spread his creative, positive spirit to the streets of Pittsburg. Randy started by transforming vacant lots into beautifully colorful spaces of art. In 1995 after creating various pieces throughout the city, he took a leap and purchased a lot which now is known as the iconic Randyland!

Randyland is a walkable, free, museum that resides outside of the home that he purchased all of those years ago. There are so many elements to Randyland, you could spend hours looking through his unique art pieces. His art consists of old toys, mannequins, or other objects that were not being used anymore. He up-cycles these items and transforms them with his special Randy touch!

He includes a sand area with toys for children to play, and old treasures all throughout. The collection of art pieces may seem like a lot to some, but the best way to explain Randyland is maximalism. Randy expresses himself through the collection of old things, as well as colorful paint and positive quotes. Pictures do not do Randyland justice, it is a place that you need to experience in person to truly appreciate all of his years of hard work.

Randy wrote, on the walls of his museum, about his struggles with autism and being bullied. He dedicates Randyland to those who feel different, or have been rejected from society. He reminds us that we are never alone and to love ourselves because he himself loves us! Randy is truly the epitome of colorful, fun and positive; he embodies his art!

Randy is not done creating art yet! According to the official website, Randy has a vision for expansion where artists and creators can collaborate “to push the boundaries of imagination.” Randy’s story is truly touching, and after walking through Randyland, you feel a connection to him. His resilience from being bullied for his differences, to creating a vibrant hub of creativity that welcomes anyone, and everyone is amazing!
